ACAP Practice Test Week

If your grade level would like to go to the track on Tuesday or Thursday for recess, please let me know, so I can make sure we don't double up and I can make Officer Antonio aware.  I'm giving permission for Thursday recess this week. I hope the weather cooperates.

Don't Forget your Read Aloud!  Everybody should have a read aloud time.  The book should be one or two grade levels above your grade level. Pre-teaching vocabulary would add such a great punch! If you need help choosing a read aloud for your class, visit with Mrs. Watts or Mrs. Prickett.  They have some great ideas.  It's also fun to listen to books read by actors.

p. 47
"When you encourage each other, you make one another stronger and you make the team stronger."

"Each individual contributes to the collective optimism, belief, and positivity of a team. The fact is if you don't have it, you can't share it."

P. 49
"A simple shift of a few words has the power to change the way you and your team approach everything,.  Instead of talking about what you HAVE TO DO, start acknowledging what you, GET TO DO"

"When you replace HAVE to with GET to, you change a complaining voice to an appreciative heart. And, when you appreciate, you elevate yourself and your team."

Good Luck!

They are 45 min blocks of time starting at 8:30 and ending at 2:15. If at all possible, please invite different parents to help with this party than the ones who came at Christmas.  No more than 3 parents! You'll need to fill out a guest form -please list all names on one form

This group will meet again this Wednesday morning and every following Wednesday.  Everything went as expected.  If you have any questions or you are having problems with students being late to class due to Priority Kids, please let me know. We have around 120 kids registered.

School Board Meeting
This month begins reports from each building level principal to the School Board.  Dr. Martin called it our "State of the Schools" report. Cahaba was chosen to go first.  So, I'll be presenting tomorrow evening.  School Board meetings are always open to the public, but I did want to offer my personal invitation. If you aren't already committed, the meeting starts at 5:00 and typically last less than one hour. There are always children in attendance too. It would be nice to have some of you there!

Happy Wednesday friends!! Its time to sign up for Secret Pals! Put your name on the list if you would like to participate!! Remember, we just send our secret pal a little happy once a month and do a reveal in May!! ðŸ˜Š

Interns from Samford!
Caroline Thompson starting with Mrs. Shorter and moving to Mrs. D. Franklin
Hannah Pulley starting with Mrs. Jones and moving to Mrs. Wessel

Welcome to Quay Walton, the tech guy! Phil has been assigned to HTMS.  Quay will be with us all day Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Reminders about Intervention Services with Strickland, Feild and Peacock.....
Students shouldn't miss interventions!
Please don't schedule "classroom rewards", such as extra recess during Intervention times.
Changes to the Intervention Schedule are only made by Tyner.
Eligibility for Special Education doesn't automatically mean removal from T3. Keep sending them!
Every student in T3 intervention should also be receiving T2 with you.

Reminders about empty classrooms..........
Please remind your students to wait for you in the hallway, if the class happens to get to the room before you do. Students should never enter an empty classroom.  Supervision is important.  If you are leaving during your planning time or early during the day, shut your door and turn the lights out. Better to be safe!

Weekly Newsletter should be uploaded to the drive, weekly.  If you've gotten behind, please go back and add the ones that are missing to the appropriate folder.

Thursday, January 25th our students will participate in a Glow Run event in the gym during PE time. I will probably create a schedule that will be a little different so I can split some of the grades into two different times. It should be a fun time with music and "glowing"!

This Thursday, we'll ask that you show a 8-10 minute video to your students immediately following announcements that will serve as the kickoff for the event. The video, explains how the students should register and all about the prizes for the different donation levels. Their parents are gathering donations for the "number of laps run". Everything is through a link and done online. The link was sent out last week.

Friday Jan. 19 - Jan.25, the Glow Run prize cart will drop of the student prizes immediately following announcement.  I would suggest that they go straight to backpacks and/or lockers until dismissal.

We are asking teachers to do a couple of things to help us out.
1. Tolerate the morning prize delivery for 5 mornings.
2. Encourage your students to register.  You'll be given some stickers to handout.
3. Show and watch the kickoff video with your class.

Boosterthon, the company we are working with, gives teachers to ability to sign into their class page and monitor involvement, send out additional emails and track class progress. This is 100% optional. I'd prefer that you not worry about any of that stuff.  You'll find a white envelop in your box this week. The students stickers, mentioned above are in this envelop.  Everything else in the envelop is optional.

The PTO is working on a teacher prize for the class with the highest percentage of participants. I'll let you know what they come up with as soon as they finalize plans.

When I met with the PTO leaders today, I realized that this fundraiser works much like Kid's Heart Challenge. I think you'll see the similarities too.

Thank you for all the Birthday wishes last week. The cards from the students were precious and I appreciate the decorations, flowers, card and gift card from the Grace Group. Celebrating your Birthday is pretty special when you do it at Cahaba!

Welcome Back to Mrs. Candice Tillman!

Our Special Guest Speaker for our Tuesday morning breakfast and our student assemblies Wednesday is Mr. Timothy Alexander.  You may remember TA from Institute last August.  If you'd like to refresh your memory or possibly learn more about him, please follow this link.

Wednesday our schedule will be a little different to accommodate the assemblies.
9:00 -Kindergarten and First Grade
9:45 - Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth Graders

Fourth Grade will move all their typical Wednesday Specials to Thursday. So, your “No Specials Day” will be Wednesday.  No other changes to the "Specials Schedule" are necessary.

Third Grade and Kindergarten PE will stay at the typical time.  No changes for you!

Adaptive PE will meet with Coach in Fulmer’s room or possibly the library or hallway anytime you choose between 8:15 -10:00.  The Coaches will have an early lunch 10:00-10:30 and then have classes for the remainder of the day.

First Grade will all have PE at 11:55-12:25 – Extra support will be provided

Second Grade will have PE at 1:10-1:40

Fourth Grade will have PE at 1:45-2:15

Fifth Grade will have PE at 11:15-11:45

Spend extra time in Morning Meetings to consider information presented by TA and review your classroom contract. It may need amendments!

Talk to your students about next week's AIMSWeb Reading Assessments and practice fluency. Most of our kiddos probably didn't read over the holidays

Use these days to reteach setting SMART goals and working on a plan for this month, this grading quarter and even ACAP and EOY. Update your Data Notebooks

Our Pace Character Trait for January is Responsibility. What does "responsibility" look like at school?
