You may get a request from a parent to allow the sibling of one of our GaTE students to stay after school and wait for Marketplace to start.  This is an absolute NO.  GaTE students have written permission to stay with Miss Morrison.  All other students will got home either as a walker/biker, car rider or bus rider. If you have any problems, please tell them to email me.

Leadership Team Notes

In our last Cahaba Leadership Team Meeting the following items were discussed:

- Construction on our 9 new classrooms should begin in the next few weeks.  This is the latest drawing.

- The addition of new classrooms does NOT necessarily mean that we are adding
additional teaching units.
- The suggestion was made to have our Cahaba Tech Night at the beginning of the
school year next year. I think this is a great suggestion!
- The team recommended that I purchase some new Ellison cut outs for our machine.  Please let me know if there are some particular patterns/shapes you would like.

Weekly Update

Please talk to your students about
building security this week.
Image result for school security1. Never open an exterior door for an adult.  This include PTO and other parents.  People should be told to walk around and come in the office doors.  This is still a problem with the Historical Front doors.
2.  Students should always travel in pairs or in view of a teacher

Don't forget the Door Decorating Contest for Read Across America Week - Doors should be completed by February 27th.  They should represent an author or a book.

Collaboration Tuesday:  Grades 2-5 will meet in the collaboration room for the entire planning time (PE and Specials)  Please bring your computer. Our Literacy Team will be working with you on the best ways to use myOn to support Lucy Calkins, AR and the principles in Reading Reconsidered.  Grade K and 1 do not have to come to the Collaboration room Tuesday. Use this time to plan together!  Your training will be next Monday afternoon.

Thursday is Family Fitness Night at Cahaba ~ 6PM

We will have a "surprise" intruder drill late this week.  Please give your kiddos a heads up.  With the recent events in Florida, I don't want to create any unnecessary drama.  However, we've got to get this done!

TAC - Jan. 25

Image result for staff questions

  1. Now that collaboration is only during specials time, are specialists still sending students on their own on Tuesdays? Ron will be available to help with student supervision when we meet across PE and Specials.  If we only meet during Specials, students transport will be the same as any other day.
  2. What is the process to get our school news published in “The Loop”? Would it be possible for one person to be in charge of sending school news? As of mid January, I’m sending most everything posted on our Cahaba FB page to Mrs. Vernon.
  3. Can teachers be notified about events directly rather than through facebook?  Ex. 100 day was shared on facebook before teachers saw the communique. The information posted on FB about 100th day of school was emailed to me by each grade level.  Maybe with so many people being in and out sick, someone missed the email?  It was also on the CES calendar for over a month.
  4. Can we sent a Notify Me when we cancel walkers/bike riders? All of our parents have not subscribed to Notify Me. Every teacher should already have a “weather plan” in place for every walker. If an individual teacher is having a problem with the plan, please come share with me your problem so I can help. As far as the office staff knows, our plan is working well.
  5. When an entire grade level is out, would it be possible to give one of these subs a key to use to get in and out of the gym and school? We have 2 swipe cards that are programmed for the outside doors to the main building and the gym to give one of the subs. We’ll be more diligent to communicate who has the swipe when the entire grade level is out.
  6. Could there be more clarification on the clearance requirements for university students to observe our classes (I brought this up at the meeting and no one knew what I was talking about-JG).  Universities and Colleges that require their students to observe or intern in a school should always contact the school and/or District.  If they come to you first, refer them to Mrs. Tyner
  7. When students check in, is there a way that they could be told if they are in specials at that time? Students have been found sitting alone in their classrooms while the class is at a special. It is our policy to tell students where to go when they check in.  You may also want to leave a note on the door or whiteboard. Please notify the office immediately if you see a student alone in a room.
  8. Would it be possible for a sidewalk to be built at the end of the new extension to meet the sidewalk that leads to the gym? (cleaner gym & less disruption through the school)  It doesn’t appear that a sidewalk like this is in the plan.  However, it can always be added to the request for Capital Improvements.
