Reminders about AIMSWeb and STAR testing
IEPs, 504s and I-ELPs all have a page with testing accommodations listed.  Please know who your IEP, I-ELP and 504 students are and follow their accommodations
Considerations ....
Small group testing - this means they DO NOT test with your class. Young, Searcy or possibly Rachel will pull them for small group testing.  All students on 504s, I-ELPs and IEP do not have this accommodation listed.  If it's not listed, we don't pull them.
ORF -Individually tested - obviously this is given in a small group.  I ask that their Case Manager, teacher or Rachel sit with or give the ORF to students with articulation issues or strong accents that may cause their ORF to lower because an unfamiliar person does not understand them.  ALSO, anxiety - if one of the afore mentioned students has anxiety mentioned on their IEP, I-ELP or 504 - Someone that comforts them should sit with them while the ORF is given.
PLEASE ask questions, if you are confused about any of your students.  Ask their Case Manager, Rachel or me
It's really important to me that we are giving these kids and all our kids their best shot at success.

Our Cahaba Prayer Group will start back up this Wednesday morning around 7:25.  We meet in the front conference room beside the front door.  I've placed a beautiful prayer bowl that Jenn Ellis gave me on the conference room table. If you have a prayer request that you would like to share anonymously, please drop it in the prayer bowl.  Or, you can always text me, Jami Mills or Linda Odom. Everyone is invited. Come every week, once a month, or whenever you can.

If  you would like to contribute to the "Date Night Basket" for the Mead's family, you can do that through Venmo or catch the envelope as it's passed around this week.

Just a reminder that Student Data Notebooks are important and a Cahaba expectation.  Grade levels should have a common plan (individually you can always add more) and have students update them.  I know it's teacher driven in Kindergarten and first grade, but the more the students take ownership, the bigger the impact!  Please let me know if you need some help brainstorming your grade level plan.  I look forward to students taking these home sometime in mid September to share their goals with their parents.

Through a brainstorming session about some token treat we could give our Pledge Helpers, came the idea of changing the name to STAR STUDENTS and having a special sticker created just for them along with a blow pop.  I once gave Chickfila coupons.  Our PTO has looked everywhere for coupons and have found that everything must come from and go through a corporate office. It's been turned into a huge effort and time delay.  I'm hoping the kids will like the stickers and the designation.  I've kept a list of our Pledge Helpers from the beginning of school.  I'll be coming around to give them their stickers.

Please take some time to get the Chat Night Videos ready to send out to our parents before Sept. 7.  That is the Tuesday after the Labor Day break.  If you have questions, please let Amy Prickett help you.

Rachel will be printing our small PACE posters and putting one in your box each month.  Please display it in your room each month.  We'll be asking for your PaceSetters for August pretty soon. Wisdom is the character trait.

If you need new binders and tabs to create data binders for new students, please stop by my office and  get them or let me know and I'll put them in your box.

WELCOME to our newest staff member, Tina Luttrell!  Tina will be the new paraprofessional working with Danielle Ray and some of our other special friends.  We are so happy to have her here!

Tara Vincent is home and recovering.  Keep her in your prayers.

AIMS Testing Schedule for ORF -  Click HERE    You can also find this in the Teacher's Resources Drive   PLEASE REMEMBER - Do not send your students who have an IEP and are served by Mrs. Young, Mrs. Searcy and Miss Tittle.  They will be pulled at a different time and given their accommodations.  PLEASE check with Rachel about your 504 kiddos too.  They may need to be added to one of our "accommodations needed lists".

We have  new computer tech assigned to Cahaba this year. Help me welcome Christine Roberts!

Family News
Tara Vincent's PawPaw passed away last weekend.  Tara has lost a grandmother, a grandfather and her Dad since December.
Please keep Tara and her family in your prayers.

Don't forget - Make sure you know how everyone goes home.  We will dismiss the same way we did last year, through the intercom calls. Please don't line up students in the hallways.  Line them up inside your door and have the ready to go.

We have two separate photo booths set up for you to take First day pictures!  Our PTO is setting up a space in front of the library for K-2.  Jenn Ellis is setting up a little more mature photo booth  in the Multi-purpose room.  It's designed for 3-5 students.
Parents LOVE a first day picture!

Tomorrow is a typical day.  Please follow your schedule for Specials, PE and lunch.  I may have the recess times on a schedule by tomorrow, or I may not!  Second -Fifth please use the window of time I sent you. K and 1, the times you sent me will work!

Late this afternoon we were advised that the ADPH Toolkit requires mask for anyone closer than 6 feet.  I know that's different and will require our students to wear masks at their desk. Please remember, we don't make the rules, but we do strive to follow them.  PLEASE remember to give our children frequent mask breaks.  *see excerpt below   I will be available to answer questions and support you through tomorrow.   I am unusually excited about this school year.  Last year, I learned that I was guilty of taking many things for granted.  Even though, we aren't completely back to "normal", I celebrate the passing of seating charts, cohort groups, traveling specialist, and the isolation of classroom groups.  I also feel a presence of resolution.  I know beyond any doubt, that our Cahaba Family can and will weather any storm that comes our way. We are strong and resilient!

I appreciate your thoughtfulness and consideration of our parent's schedules when choosing your "Meet the Teacher" dates and times.  So many people have expressed their appreciation for an opportunity to meet you!

In early July, we kicked off the Cahaba Back to School Challenge.  The printable page was posted to FB and IG.  Copies were also available for pick up in the office.  We will continue the Back to School Challenge until August 27.  My goal is that every Cahaba student complete the challenge AT HOME! We'll have Popsicles and bracelets for all who complete.  I'll put a stack of copies one person's box from each grade level, so you will have them available at Meet the Teacher.

PLEASE create some sort of board with your "wishes" listed on notes that parents can take with them.  This is a much better option to adding them to supply list.
If possible have this out at Meet the Teacher.
Another idea would be sharing information through a QR Code
that parents can access with their phones.

Let me hear from you about Summer Reading.  What are your expectations for the students?

Hooray!  We negotiated a price break on the t-shirts so you owe nothing!  They will be distributed Friday morning.  Please plan to wear them to Institute Monday and for our staff picture Tuesday.
