This would be a great week to have a class meeting and revisit your Classroom Contract for behavior expectations. Make sure you add in a little talk about being grateful and helping others.  If the students are thinking of random acts of kindness and being thankful, their overall happiness changes. Our PACE characteristic for November is Contentment: Deciding to be happy with what you have.

Early Dismissal Friday - We will start with walkers at 1:00. This will create a few small changes to the schedule.
*Kindergarten Specials will only be 20 minutes.  Kindergarten will need to pack up to go home before going to PE.
*We will have Grab and Go Lunches Friday.  I'll call your class to come to the cafeteria to pick up your lunches. We'll start around 10:45 and go in our typical order.
*The Prize Patrol will take a week off!

It's time for the lunchroom schedule to rotate.  It may be later tonight before I get that done.  I'll send out a link and you'll see it in the drive asap.

Veterans Day Essays are due Thursday, November 4.
Prompt: Why is it important to honor our Veterans?

Veterans Day Essay Contest for all students in grades 1-5.  They are due by 2PM, Thursday November 4.  Please allow all students to participate.  As in years past, I encourage you to do some brainstorming and possibly offer graphic organizers as part of a writing lesson.  However, it's fine for the essay writing to be done at home.  Once I choose winners, the students will be recorded reading their essay.  This will be posted on Social Media and shared with our parents.  Hint: students shouldn't "write" something they cannot read!

Don't forget to complete the Technology Survey Found RIGHT here

We are nearing the end of the Trimester.  All grades must be posted before 8AM November 8.

Don't let this sneak up on you!

We have heard your concerns about copies for STEMScopes Math and Open Court and we have a plan!  Beginning November 1, Barbara will issue a copy number dedicated to STEMScopes Math and another for OpenCourt.  We are using the honor system and ask that you help us gather data while we are helping you too!  Only use the copy numbers for the content they are assigned to.  REMEMBER: STEMScopes Math is a resource.  You are not required to use all of the components. We'll run this plan through the end of December.

Don't you want to nominate a Specialist or Special Education Teacher to be our Team Member of the Month??
You have until Wednesday to get those turned in to me!

Wall of Fame portraits are in your box for students to color (pencils or crayons).  When they are completed, put them back in my box!

If a student gets hurt at school, please try to call the parent afterschool and let them know what happened.  Nurse Donna calls for head injuries, so your call would be a follow up. If it's discipline related, I'm calling too.  Emails are ok,  if your phone call wasn't answered.

Wall of Fame!  When sorting the percentiles for Reading and Math AIMSWeb, I made a HUGE mistake that resulted in many students being left off.  I will announce this to the students Monday and happily add more students as Inaugural Members. We'll take the pictures of these additions Oct. 26.  Thank you to Collins and Windham for picking up on this when they were helping their students set goals in their data NBs.

Thursday - is PLP Review Day.  Please print a copy of your PLP from LincSpring and bring it by my office for a quick meeting anytime between the following times.

7:00 AM - 7:45 AM
8:40 AM - 1:45 PM
2:30 PM - 4:15 PM

If this doesn't work for you, email me with some times that would work for you and we'll work it out.

It's time for MUSH Grant Applications!  Grants may be awarded up to $1,500 each.  PLEASE, PLEASE take the time to apply for a grant.  Dream big!  If you need help finding some extra time to work on this, please come talk to me.  It's really important to me and Cahaba for our students to benefit from the Foundation's gift.  Thank you to April Smith for her submission.

Don't Forget Red Ribbon - Let's all do our part to participate and
support our students.

Friday, October 29th will be the day we "celebrate" Halloween.  We do not have Halloween Parties.  However, I would like for each grade level to plan "Centers" that are Standards based, while also having a Halloween theme. Please let me know what your grade level has planned.  You may utilize outside areas, have students move class to class (w/table cleaning) or teachers can just move from room to room.  The activities can last as long or as short as you choose.  Your Homeroom Moms can help with any supplies you may need.  You make this as simple or elaborate as you choose.  Let's make this a fun learning experience for our Cahaba Crew.
