Rachel had the wonderful idea of putting a laminated chart in each of your rooms to mark the Special you completed each day.  This will be amazingly helpful to whoever may show up to do your specials.  Please make sure it get's updated daily.

If you have parents with DreamBox concerns that you can explain, please send them to Rosetta.  She can help explain and most likely calm them!

Remember - All of your students do not need to complete
Successmaker

Family News: Nurse Donna's brother has
been at GrandView for weeks.  Please remember him in your prayers.

If you've looked ahead on our calendar, you may have seen Cahaba Turkey Trot!  This fundraiser event will take place during Specials and PE on November 20th.  Stay tuned for more information!

If you haven't turned in the name of your October PaceSetter, you're late!  Please get that emailed to Kristi Jones ASAP!

Veterans Day is just around the corner and I'll be looking for essays for our annual essay contest!  The prompt will be, "Why should we honor Veterans?"  Next week their should be some lesson embedded into Specials that will help get the kids thinking.  All essays are due to me no before you leave campus November 6th!  I would suggest doing the graphic organizer at school and maybe letting them write the essay at home.  Every child doesn't have to enter an essay, but I do want to see all of the ones from your class, not just the best ones! This is for Virtual and F2F kiddos.

It's time to nominate for our October Team Member of the Month! This month we'll choose from our Kindergarten, First and Second grade teachers.  Our most recent honorees were Grogan and Marshall.  I can't wait to read your nominations!

Marco's Spirit Day! - Tuesday

Earlier today you received the instructions for submitting a MUSH grant.  We were the only school without any grants last year..........  Let's not let that happen again! Hopefully, we'll get of our quarantined friends back at school and I can use our subs to fill "Helping Hands" request. This would be a great use of "Helping Hands"

Please help me welcome Mrs. Tara Vincent! Tara will be joining our 3rd grade Team as Mrs. Rish's partner teacher.  Her new class will start up November 9th.  For the next couple of weeks she will be learning about Lucy Calkins and all things Cahaba.

If you are like me and haven't paid your Grace Group dues, let's all try to get that done this week.  Checks or cash goes to Sarah Faulkner

I hear that DreamBox has added or changed some standards. So this seems like a good time to remind you all that we don't assign standards to students unless it is for remediation.  That would mean the standard has already been taught and assessed.

PLEASE remember to check your email at least 3 times a day for office messages.  Before School, Before lunch and after school.  Nancy leaves messages for students to pick up things from the "shelf" and the student never picks it up.  Yikes!

Another timely reminder for all of us.....................  When you are planning with your team or with a committee.  PLEASE, Please, stay 6 feet apart!

If you've changed your seating chart in the classroom or the cafeteria, please update with Rosetta and Nurse Donna.

Our new staff pictures have been hung in the office.  They are wonderful!  Thank you to Rosetta and her talented Daddy, "Grandpa".

PST_November/December

PST Process...November/December --

New Referrals and PST Updates will be due by December 4, 2020

Here is the Process:

1. Referrals will be submitted using the Google Form below.
2. Referral information will be reviewed by PST members; action steps and goals will be put into the plan based off your information.
3. You will receive a copy of the plan to review.
4. Plan reviews should be completed within 2 days of receiving the plan.  This is your time to ask questions about the plan and/or agree/disagree with the action steps, goals, etc.  You can email Mrs. Rosetta with any feedback.
5. Teachers will implement the plan to fidelity and collect data.
6. Evidence will be uploaded to the student's Google Drive Folder that is shared with you -- if you have students attending SONDAY or Essentials, it is your responsibility to contact the person providing the service to get their data
7. Teachers will reassess the student using the progress monitoring tool identified in the plan, and in the time frame the plan recommends.
8. Teachers will complete the update form (see below) for students currently in RTI.
9. PST information will be reviewed and the same process above will be used.

Kindergarten through 3rd Grade must be referred if:
  • If a student's reading score is DARK ORANGE in AIMSWeb
  • If there is an alert next to the student's name in AIMSWeb
  • If their composite score percentile is less than 25% in AIMSWeb

Other pieces of data to consider when referring your students for PST and updating their information:

STAR EL, STAR, Performance Series, AR, Differentiated Strategies may not be working, classroom interventions are not enough, SONDAY/Essentials

Reminders for the Tribe.......................
We Focus on Positive Student Behavior ~ Praise in public, Discipline in Private.
- students should never be asked to write their name or number in a public space
- Clip systems that include negative behaviors should not be at the front of your room.
- Consequences for inappropriate behavior should be private or at least be part of a choice
EX: asking a student to walk laps during recess -
this is fine, if the student chooses this as their
consequence.  They should also be given an option that would be private. ie, writing an
apology that the parent signs or you calling the parent.
You could also involve parents in this decision. If the parent agrees in writing to walking laps or
silent lunch. It's fine with me too. Any behavior modification plan should be done w/ parental input.
Some of our students are humiliated by public correction. I know you would never choose to humiliate a child.
- Positive Reinforcement is ALWAYS the best choice.
- We, Osburn and Tyner, are always available to help brainstorm solutions.  We actually enjoy helping you work through classroom management debacles.

Help me remind our students that we only use sidewalk chalk in uncovered areas.

Around 2:15 daily, our custodians will place large garbage cans in the hallways. We are hoping a classroom volunteer can empty your classroom garbage can.  This small act will help our custodians immensely!  Don't forget to wash hands and/or use hand sanitizer.
