Reopening Cahaba - #1

Your Leadership Team met last week and we have notes to share with you!
Leader's Toolkit— TOOLKITHowever, I won't be going over things that were already answered in the District's FAQ.
You can reference those HERE

We practice the 3 W's:
Watch your distance, Wash your hands, Wear your mask

When will we be able to get back in our rooms?
I hope one day next week.  However, we must make decisions about Virtual Teachers first.  Assign grade level to Face to Face teachers, then assign rooms.  We finally have declarations from everyone. 80% A   20% B/C

What will our rooms look like this year?
All rugs will be stored.  We need to think minimal. I feel certain that you will need to take things out of your classroom to allow for the students to be separated. Desk will be facing forward and separated as much as possible.  Tables will have plexiglass dividers and be spaced out as much as possible.  All classrooms will have a seating chart.  Students cannot share any manipulative, toys etc.... Rosetta will be helping facilitate.

What are your expectations for face coverings?
Students should wear masks when they are moving around; arrival, dismissal, going to restroom, to and from lunch and recess and anytime they don't have a shield between them and another person.  We will encourage and offer masks to students.  We have to be careful not shame or punish students for choosing not to mask.

What will our schedule look like this year?
Hand washing and or using hand sanitizer will be scheduled. Before and after lunch and other times throughout the day.
Recess will be scheduled by the office
PE  - 30 minutes a day
Specials - 30 min a day 4 days a week
Our master schedule will look very similar to last year's schedule

Will we all eat in the cafeteria?
Every class will be assigned a lunch "spot".  It may be in the cafeteria or an assigned place outside.  Lunch assignments will rotate every 2 weeks.  Our cafeteria cannot exceed 50% occupancy. Students will be seated in a zig-zag fashion.

What will PE and Specials look like?
Each homeroom will be assigned a specialist.  This specialist will come to your classroom every day during specials time and "push out" the lesson for the day.  All Specials will be presented in a virtual format. PE will be done very similarly.  However the PE Coach will facilitate as many lessons as he possibly can.  Students will be taken outside as much as possible during specials. We plan to have tents to help with the sun and heat.

What changes should we expect for recess?
A schedule that rotates the place on campus for your recess.  Use of the playground several times a week instead of daily. Using hand sanitizer before and after recess and wearing a face covering.

Do we have a school nurse? and how can will we there be a "new" way to access her?
Donna Bryan is our new nurse and the new Clinic is being set up in Heather Cate's old classroom.  The room will be divided for a well and sick side with large 6 1/2 foot partitions. Nurse Bryan will meet with each grade level prior to school starting and share new protocols.
