Observing peers is one of the best ways I know to get good ideas and see best practices. Please email me a Date, Block of Time, Grade Level and Subject area you would like to observe. I'll do my best to make it work.
Update to the Makerspace Room
2021 Porshia Franklin received a MUSH grant to start a Makerspace at Cahaba
2022 Porshia received an additional grant for more supplies for the Makerspace
2023 Our first mini course was taught by Rachel Brockman - 3D Printing
Summer/Fall of 2023
The Makerspace was moved to the front room beside our Collaboration Room and rebranded. A committee (Brockman, Tyner, McIntosh, Smith, Franklin and Franklin) chose the name "Curiosity Cave". New paint and additional shelving is currently in progress.
The plan for use -
Through student survey, outside presenters will be invited to teach small mini courses that interest our students. This will be taught on Wednesday afternoons in the "Curiosity Cave" and available to 4th and 5th graders.
Any teacher can use the "Curiosity Cave" for project based learning activities. You are encouraged to write MUSH grants to cover the cost of materials. Materials can be housed in the "Curiosity Cave" as well as "work in progress" can be left in this room until your project is completed. A calendar for you to sign up will be posted outside the door.
We are constantly looking for opportunities to increase the variety and inventory of the supplies available in the "Curiosity Cave". Please give some thought into writing a MUSH grant for an innovative learning experience for our students. You don't have to worry about making a mess in your room or storage. We can take care of that in "the Cave".
If you have questions or suggestions, please let me or one of the members of the committee know.
First Nine Weeks Celebration! Friday- October 13!
For you first timers - A google doc will be sent out to everyone. Please look carefully and fill in the sections that are designated for you. I read directly from this document during the Celebration. NEW!!! I want every child to have an opportunity to run through the "Teacher Tunnel". So this year we will start each celebration by celebrating Birthdays. We will add July to this first celebration and June to the May celebration.
