C2C - Frequently Asked Questions - April 24

  1. How is Cahaba doing announcements?   I wanted to stick with my morning announcements through FB live. Mainly because they are done in real-time and not preloaded a week ahead. I also wanted you to have control over those announcements. I've talked to several of you about some options. There are SO many different things you could do here. Take a minute to look at the Fifth grade slides. They had a great approach. The slide that we used this week is OK, but it's not the best option for sure. UPDATE: We are adding a "movie" every Monday that Tina is creating from the themed pictures you are sending in.
  2. Can we use an alternate assessment method? (instead of Google Form, can we use a Google Doc) We are asking that you not change content, However you can change the format within your googleclassroom, if you think it will make things more accessible for your students. You know your students best
  3. Will each week be bookmarked/saved from the previous weeks?I haven't gotten an official answer on this, but I don't think you'll be able to see the previous weeks lessons once the new week is uploaded to the C2C website 3/12 yes! there will be a hyperlink to them on the C2C page
  4.  Can I use Zoom? You may use zoom with other TSC employees and with students one-on-one, with a parents knowledge. Some or all of the third grade sent our a sign up genius for parents to sign up for a zoom conference. I thought that was a fantastic proactive move. Please do not use zoom with more than one student at a time.
  5. Are we allowed to alter assessments to meet the needs of our students? This is similar to #2. Yes, if you need to adjust the assessment or load an additional lesson to make things more familiar for your students. Please do that within your google classroom.
  6. Do the packets have to look just like the online lesson? No, they need to teach/asses the critical standards using the best materials possible.
  7. Can you share the time recommendations again?  And break it down by instructional time and independent work time?K-3 a combined 60 minutes for all instruction. 4-5 a combined 90 minutes for all instruction. Student independent work/reading time should not exceed the amount of instructional time. So, a K-3 child could be engaged in school work (combo of both) for a max. of 2 hours a day. That would include required reading too. 4-5 students could total 3 hours a day. I would prefer that we stay under those maximum amounts of time.
  8. Can we upload the presentation into our Google Classroom? Yes, but we would prefer that students follow the District plan for going to the Classroom to Cloud website, work through the slides and access the google classroom when prompted.
  9. What if a student hasn't joined my google classroom? Please call and email the parent. Please keep documentation of your attempts. I you have not had contact with a student at all during this week, please turn their name into Mrs. Osburn.
  10. How should my screencastify video be shared so everyone can view it? Make certain you have selected Unlisted.
  11. Will Trussville continue to provide lunches for our students? I know other Districts have discontinued their programs. TCS intends to continue our food distribution plan.
  12. When are lessons and packets due? Lessons for April 20 - May 1 - Due April 16, Lessons for May 4-15 - Due April 30, Lessons for May 18 - 22 - Due May 14
  13. Should we email packet contents to all the principals? Within the Google workspace there is a "resources folder". Please put your materials for the week in this folder.
  14. Are the activities/lessons designed by our specialist required? No, they are not required.
  15. There are many standards listed on the K, 1 and 2 report card that we didn't teach. Do we leave them blank on the report card? Yes, if there are any standards that you did not access, leave them blank.
  16. We give a fluency score on the report card. Should we do this through Zoom, FT and/or student recordings? I think this should be a grade level decision and I'm fine with whatever you decide to do.
  17. What will the requirements be for packing up this year? Are we waxing? We haven't heard any updates. When we do, I'll make sure to pass it along
  18. Are the posting dates and grade verification dates on the calendar the ones we will be using this May? Yes, however if students need extra time Nancy and Tyner will work with you on a individual basis.
  19. Should we have "retention meetings" via Zoom? Yes, The "recommendation for retention" form is in the Teacher Resources Drive. Please fill that out. After the meeting, you'll need to email the form to the parent and they should return it through email or by putting it in our drop box. If the parent disagrees with the recommendation, please note that on the form. Also, make sure that I, Tyner, knows about these meetings. If needed, I'll be happy to attend them.
  20. Can students performance during Classroom to Cloud impact retention? No. Our philosophy concerning grade is; Do No Harm. Meaning students grades should stay the same or go up during C2C. I've also placed a copy of our retention policy in the Teacher Resources Drive.
  21. We only have one grade in Science. Should that be their grade on their report card? Following our philosophy of Do No Harm. I would let the A's stand and offer the students who don't have an A an optional assignment to bring up their grade.
