PST Update for Week of Dec. 4

PST Process...November/December --

New Referrals and PST Updates will be due by December 4, 2020

Here is the Process:

1. Referrals will be submitted using the Google Form below.
2. Referral information will be reviewed by PST members; action steps and goals will be put into the plan based off your information.
3. You will receive a copy of the plan to review.
4. Plan reviews should be completed within 2 days of receiving the plan.  This is your time to ask questions about the plan and/or agree/disagree with the action steps, goals, etc.  You can email Mrs. Rosetta with any feedback.
5. Teachers will implement the plan to fidelity and collect data.
6. Evidence will be uploaded to the student's Google Drive Folder that is shared with you -- if you have students attending SONDAY or Essentials, it is your responsibility to contact the person providing the service to get their data
7. Teachers will reassess the student using the progress monitoring tool identified in the plan, and in the time frame the plan recommends.
8. Teachers will complete the update form (see below) for students currently in RTI.
9. PST information will be reviewed and the same process above will be used.

Other pieces of data to consider when referring your students for PST and updating their information:

STAR EL, STAR, Performance Series, AR, Differentiated Strategies may not be working, classroom interventions are not enough, SONDAY/Essentials

IMPORTANT REMINDERS .............
The showing of movies/videos (including movies of books the student's have read) is prohibited during instructional time, no specials day, "I missed my Specials" days, or indoor recess. A better use of this time would be;  Missed Recess - indoor game or go noodle, No Specials or "I missed Specials": AR conferences, update Data NBs, Progress monitoring PST students, DreamBox or AR time.

You may show a "clip" from a movie or video, during lunch in your room (25 min limit).  If you use videos to introduce new material (documentary/historical/point of reference) you should push these out through Schoology so students can watch them on their own device.  This can also be done with individualized Enrichment opportunities.  Watching videos can also be assigned as homework.

If I've missed something or you would like for me to consider another perspective, please let me know and I'll meet with you or your grade level.  Time is precious! and our face to face time is even more precious!

Collaboration his week........
Please look in Teacher Resources in the folder marked PD - We finished discussions through slide #8.  This week, please look at slides 9 - 12 and make decisions about 1)point range for each subject area 2)number of assignments for each subject 3)common things that will be graded in each subject in your grade level.  Please let me know if you'd like for Rosetta or me to join your planning.

November 30th is the deadline for turning in a MUSH grant! Amy Prickett, Tina Fortenberry and April Smith have all been awarded MUSH grants in the past.  They can answer any questions you may have.

I use 4 primary ways to keep you informed of things going on at Cahaba.  They are all VERY important and each one necessary.  For example, if you choose to only read the Blog and not check the calendar you could miss something! I try to remember to announce things in the mornings, but if you rely totally on announcements, you'll miss something!  Please make it a habit to check the calendar a couple of times a week, read all emails as soon as possible, read the Blog on Sunday nights and listen to morning announcements.  This is a busy, busy place!

I think some of the kiddos are getting a little tired of the mask and I've also heard of several students not remembering to charge their Chromebooks or forgetting them all together!  Let's not let these things frustrate us.  I would encourage you to use "husky paws" to reward those that do remember.  I'm really against punitive actions for these two things.  I think we can get this under control for almost everyone with a little positive reinforcement and empathy. Chromebooks can be checked out from the library. Nurse Donna has masks and you should have a box.  If you need more, let us know!

Please check your emergency bags and make certain you have a supply of Clinic Passes and a pen.  Students going to the nurse from recess should always have a Clinic Pass.  Take that bag with you wherever you go!

Veterans Day
The Veterans Day Committee needs your help making this day special for our Veterans!

1. Ask any new students to bring in a picture of a Veteran in Their family to be added to our slide show.
2.  Take an individual picture of each student holding his/her veteran picture (the ones from last year will be distributed asap) and upload them to the "Veterans Day Pictures" folder in the Teacher Resource Drive.
3. Have students turn in Veterans Day Essays, due Friday.  The Prompt: Why should we honor Veterans?
4. Have your students make cards for Veterans.  These will be sent to V.A. hospitals and nursing homes.

I you change you classroom seating chart, you will need to turn in the new classroom chart and cafeteria chart to Mrs. Rosetta the day before you start using it.

Please remember when planning with your team to Social distance!  Finding subs for an entire grade level is very, very difficult!

Please send me the date and time you would
like to have your Trimester Celebration Zoom
 for your grade level.

Last week we talked a great deal about SuccessMaker and AIMSWeb.  As we add new things to our daily/weekly life, I think conversations and questions are so important.  Below are a few statements made in conversation with Lisa R.  I found them to be right on spot and clarifying!

I understand that we do not want to sacrifice our traditional instruction just to have students work on computers.  I also understand that these programs can be very helpful.

  1. They are written by the same people that write the standardized tests, so often having the children exposed to these programs can help them with standardized tests.
  2. Many of my children with focus issues learn well from on-screen learning.  It helps them to focus on the lessons.
  3. I looked at the resources for the math section and they are quite good.  I am always looking for more math practice for my students. (I have not let anyone do the math yet.)
  4. These programs can give confidence to students who are struggling.

And these questions asked and answered!

  1.  Could students use it in the mornings while they are waiting in the halls?  YES!
  2. Can students use it at home on a voluntary basis? YES!
  3. Could they choose to use during free time or no special time? YES!

Never forget the value of student collaboration, creating and debate! There's a place and time for many different modes of learning. Our job is to analyze our students and their needs.  Know all of the resources that we have and carefully match them.  There's no one better to make those decisions than YOU!
